Challenge
This week's challenge (on the Diva's blog) was to use Bugles by Joyce Evans (step outs here). That is the darker tangle below. I had fun with it, as always :)Flower Stamps
After playing with the house stamps (I've shown them here) with my 4-year-old niece, she said next time we needed to play with flower stamps. So, I grabbed some cheap erasers, designed some simple flower centers, petals, and leaves, and carved them on the erasers (see them below on the left side).
Then, we played with them and had a lot of fun. At one point, she grabbed one of the leaf stamps, and created a flower with it. Go figure!! I had not thought of doing that, but see below right how they can look pretty cool!
When I got home, it was time for me to play with them :). I got some Bristol paper, and went at it with the flowers and the leaves. I then doodled all over the background to fill the empty spaces, and then painted the flowers, leaves, and background shapes with H2Os (shimmering watercolors). Oh what fun!!!
I'm now working on a 8.5 x 11 in piece; I stamped the flowers and leaves in grey, and have started outlining them with black ink. Once done, I will add shaped to the background (as in the piece above), and hope it will turn out to be a really fun page to color, or paint, or tangle in.
Love your challenge piece - are those Bugles wearing a hat? It looks good anyway. Great Mooka! Your stamp piece does look like a lot of fun - and so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you! By hat, do you mean that shape a little above the center? It was my attempt at smoothly transitioning from one tangle to another :)... yeah, it came out funny :)
DeleteI love your Bugle Challlenge piece. The bugles never looked better in their new outfits.Good Job.
ReplyDeleteYour stamp pieces are awesome.
Thank you so much, David! I had a lot of fun with both :)
DeleteI just couldn't do Bugles...mine looked like malevolent bats....or nasty insects and so I haven't posted. Yours are lovely though and look good with Mooka.
ReplyDeleteI was so inspired by your stamps the other week that I have posted my own 'versions' of your idea. They're on my blog here if you want a peek.

Thanks!

When I was trying out Bugles in my sketchbook, they didn't come out so great, either. Then I started my tile and though "let's see how these turn out"... I kept adding and adding to them, and actually what I think made them come alive was adding the black in the background.
DeleteI loved seeing your stamps and in turn was also inspired to tangle in mine :). I'm so glad you are enjoying them, and I'm very flattered I inspired you. :)
Dear Marta!! Your Bugle is great!! Fun to see that you seem to be using the leafy tangles lately - must be spring. And I hope all that is new for you is going great!!!

Hi Diane! Thank you! Yes, I'm trying out more leafy tangles :) You find that you start using the same ones over and over, and "ignoring" others. So now I'm trying to use some of those I haven't really gotten into before.
DeleteI'm extremely busy now with the new job, but it is all very good :)
Oh meant to say how much fun it is to see your niece's work and then what you created when you went home :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually posted my niece's work - maybe I should, huh? She is in this funny phase that once she finishes drawing/painting something, if she likes it she rolls it up, then folds it, then puts a rubber band around it and gives it to her mom :) lol... so, that's where these ended up. I think next time I will need to take a picture with my phone before it gets made into a present :)
DeleteSuch a beautiful composition you have created with the Bugles and others. You are lucky to have someone to share your playtime with. I think it's always a win,win thing.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the bugles and how fun are the stamps... I see a summer project in my future!
ReplyDeleteLovely.
