Challenge #175
We're in the process of putting our condo up for sale this week, so all of a sudden (while I was at work) all my art supplies were gone and packed away, all I have left are a few tiles, and my pens. So, I feel very lucky I had put them in a nice plarn crochet basket I had made and they survived the packing :).
The challenge was to use Crux by Henrike Bratz - you can see the step outs here and Diva's challenge here.
I was trying out this new tangle at work during lunch time. I looked at the step outs, and though... "OK, got it!" and then grabbed my pad of paper and went for it. Hmmm... that didn't work! OK, back to the computer to review the steps again, then back to the paper. I must have done this four or five times, I hate to admit, I was just not getting it that you do one X on 4 grids!! Somehow I was missing that, and obviously it was not working. Once I got it, it was easy-peasy, and a lot of fun :).
Stamp Carving - Mirror repeat
Continuing on with Julie Fei-Fan's book - Carve, Stamp, Play...Mirror repeat is a bit deceptive as you cannot really print the mirror image of a stamp, but the idea is that you rotate your stamp and print it next to the one you just printed. So, I played around with a few designs, but ended up going with this one:
Print of mirror stamp |
Ugly stage - after it has been painted with H2Os |
Finished |
Printed the stamp in a way such that I created 4x4 squares of each side of the stamp - unlike above where you had alternating (1x1) squares |
Like the perspective you created in your tile. Very 3D effect.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Donald. I'm still not that comfortable with shading, but I keep on it :)
DeleteBeautiful stamping work! Did you carve the stamp, too? Gorgeous. And I felt the same about Crux! I still need to practice more.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Katie. Yes, I designed and carved the stamp, which makes it extra special :)
DeleteI love the curved effect of Crux in your tile!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathy! I'm into curves right now, so most of my grids end up curved :)
DeleteVery beautiful, I like Mooka next and in it!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Anne :)
DeleteWonderful tile with a lot of movement! I like it! Great pieces with your postive-negative stamp, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, LonettA. I certainly have a lot of fun with both :)
DeleteI love your Challege Tile, Marta. Beautiful use of a curved grid, and a great design. Your support patterns are my favorites. Love the Mookas dancing around the edges of piece. Wonderful work.
ReplyDeleteI like your stamp pieces also. Lots of talent at your home.
Thank you, David. Mooka is one of those I am not completely comfortable with, I never know how it is going to turn out. So, I keep using it in hopes I will become better at it :)
DeleteI have a lot of fun designing the stamps; patterns, especially are incredibly fun to design and then see how they turn out.
Your challenge piece is absolutely fabulous!!
Great Crux tangle, Marta - and yet again, some wonderful stamps to admire! Axxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Annie.
DeleteMarta - I am glad some of your materials are still out :) Moving again!! But I bet to a more permanent place!! Your Crux is quite lovely!! I had to try several times too ... and wish I had just stayed with the Crux.
ReplyDeleteYour stamps are stunning!! The colors and shapes are magnificent!!!

Hi Diane... yes, we've been staying with our boys in a 2 bedroom condo. Now that I have a job, we're selling it so we can get a house we will all actually fit in :). I will then be very happy to get all my art materials back :)
DeleteThanks for the comments on my pieces; I really appreciate it. I haven't even been able to look at everyone's submissions! Maybe later this week.
Love you crux tile, and the stamps.... awesome!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Kate!
