Challenge and Carved Tree and Houses

Challenge

This week's Diva's Challenge (here) is to use variations or tangleations of Rain, an official Zentangle tangle.  You can find the step outs for Rain here.

I had a lot of fun playing around with variations in my sketchbook.  I then decided which of the variations to use and created my tile.  I added a background tangle and once I was done the Rain variation had blended so much into the background that it was all a big mess.  So, I decided to color the background with colored pencil, and that made Rain stand out a bit more.

I'm probably going to do another one with the other variations I created, especially since I'm not so thrilled with this one.  Comment away !  :)

UPDATE:  I did create a new tile with a couple of other Rain tangleations

Carved Tree and Houses

In the carving workshop this week, I had fun with carving you-complete-me type of stamps.  I went for a tree and houses.

So, these are the prints of the individual blocks. The house blocks were carved on cheap erasers; I just wanted to try it out.

Unfortunately I had so much fun with them, I haven't carved "real" ones yet :).  I started out with this one:

Then created another one with the tree and had a lot of fun adding in details :).
Before - with just the printed blocks

After - with details
Completely fun and funky :)

    1. Thank you so much, Daniele. I had so much fun with the stamps :) and still have a couple of those prints to finish up :). I think I will add a couple of those prints to my art journal to play with when I only have a few minutes.

  5. Both of the tiles are wonderful, but I especially like the first one you did. You fixed everything by adding color which added great depth. I love your houses and am heading right now for my eraser stash!

    1. Hi Jean, thank you and yes, I agree that the color pushed the background back - I was much happier with it afterwards :). I'm so glad you loved the house idea and I hope you have lots of fun with yours :)

    1. Thanks, Bonnie; I really appreciate it. I did have a lot of fun with "dancing rain" :).

Regarding the stamps... yes, I also love making leaves. After playing with my 4-year old niece yesterday with the house blocks, I got a request from her to do flowers next :). So... I will be making some of those in the next day or two - they should be a lot of fun as well.

    1. Thanks, Anne! I think the color did add to it, so I was my attempt at separating Rain from the background worked out.

    1. Thanks, Beewatch :) Hopefully you will have some time in the near future. It is one of the things that I love about creating art: experimenting with everything I can get my hands on :)

  11. Both Rain tiles are wonderful. I couldn't choose a preference, but maybe those dollops on the top of the second one's Rain plants give that tile the edge. And yes, like everyone else I'm loving those stamps. Have to resist trying to find out more about stamp carving because I am already spreading myself out way to thin on the artsy-crafty front. (But I'm making a mental note for when that day comes and I have soooo much time - it will come right...?)

  12. I love the "pillow" rain (1st drawing). I love the variation, and how the rain mixes so nicely with the "background". The I love the coloring.

I love the "party" rain (2nd drawing). Beautiful. Looks so right to plant rain in the ground and grow it upwards :)

  13. Coloring Bales in the background did bring out the Rain in the first tile. I like the subtle shading in the second tile.

  15. The colouring on the first block really does make the rain jump to the foreground. great solution. Your houses are wonderful. Adding the line work made an amazing difference. I thought they looked good just as you printed them, but then with the lines, wow.

    1. Thanks, Heather! Yes, the lines around the little houses do make a huge difference. I love to design and carve stamps that lend themselves to adding more details with pen and ink; sometimes just outlining them will make them pop :)

    1. lol... wow! I'm so glad! I also was not convinced I could do much with rain as far as varying it, but once I got started, it sort of happened. I have also been looking at everyone's challenge entry and love how some people were able to create such amazing and beautiful variations.
