The Diva's Zentangle Weekly Challenge #153

Jailed Johnny - by Sadelle Wiltshire, CZT

Since I want to keep learning new tangles and keep drawing and relaxing with Zentangle, I decided to try to participate in the Diva's weekly challenges.  You can find her blog here (or click on the Zentangle Challenge button on the right side of my blog).

This week's tangle is called Jailed Johnny and it was created by Sadelle Wiltshire.  You can see the instructions here if you want to try it yourself.

This is my entry (you can see the tangle in the center and around the top left corner):

Every time I learn a new tangle I write down the stepouts and keep them together so I don't have to search for them again.  It is a way to practice a tangle and also a reference anytime I want to use it and forget exactly how it is done.

What I also like is the display of tangles I have on my cork board.  When I draw a blank on what pattern to use because I want a certain value or shape, I look at my display and choose.  Each little square has the name and creator in the back so I can refer back to the stepouts if I need to.  I'm sure this collection will grow, but not my space, so I will have to switch them on and off as I start using them more and more.

  1. Nice use of this tangle. Reminds me a little of Purk. Nice shading.

    1. Thank you so much for commenting! A handbag! I hadn't thought of it but now I see it :) Maybe I will do one with the handles coming off of the loops of the bigger jailed johnnys :)

    1. Thanks a lot! I also like and use the display often as I'm just starting out and may not remember all the possibilities I have available in a particular shape and value :)

    1. Now I can only see a handbag when I look at it :) I also enjoy how everyone looks at the same instructions and comes up with such unique and different art. Love yours, also :). Thanks!!

  6. Lovely work, I really love your tangle reference and that fabulous tangle cork board, what wonderful inspiration! What paper are you using for your reference ring?

    1. Thank you so much, Daniele. For the reference ring I'm using Quattro paper (a pad 4x5"). What I like about it is that the paper is a bit thicker than most pad paper and very smooth.

  8. Marta, you've made a beautiful work of art - the flowers and leaves suit jailed johnny really well! I didn't see it at first - I am very impressed with how organised you are :)

    1. Thank you so much, Lila! It is very interesting how different people will see the same tangle differently; I've seen and read some of the other posts and a lot of people saw them as butterflies/moths :)
